The Lazy Bee is a small field R/C airplane
with exceptional low speed performance. Typical wing loading is around 6
oz/sq ft! The stall speed is very low and the control surfaces are
oversized. The Lazy Bee loops and rolls easily at speeds where most planes
fall out of the sky! This outstanding slow speed performance is shared by
the Big Lazy Bee.
On the ground the Lazy Bee is just as impressive. The sprung landing
gear ensures that the plane handles rough terrain like an R/C jeep! This
is one plane that you won't have to chase - you can taxi it right up to
your feet. The take-off roll is very short. The Lazy Bee leaps into the
air quickly, even when flying from grassy fields. This amazing ground
performance is only matched by the Lazy Bee's float flying ability. Short
takeoffs, no loss of aerobatic ability, and you can switch from land plane
to float plane in under 5 minutes! And to top it all off, the floats work
on snow, too!
Both the Lazy Bee and the Big Lazy Bee have been successfully built and
flown with a variety of motor and radio installations. As you can see, the
Lazy Bees accept a remarkably wide range of motors. Micro-radios are
recommended for the Lazy Bee. If you have an .09 engine or larger, you can
probably use standard servos. However, the electric powered and
small-engine
(less than .09) Lazy Bees need to keep their weight down and should stick
with the micro-servos & receiver, and a small battery pack (300 mAh).
Light weight covering recommended for the Lazy Bee, such as Cover Lite.
It
saves around 3 - 4 oz compared with standard coverings (Monokote, Easytex).
Gas powered Lazy Bees with .09 or larger motors can use
the stronger Monokote or Coverite. Three rolls (2 base, 1
trim) will cover the Lazy Bee.

LAZY BEE KIT
This is the original 40" wingspan, 3-channel Lazy Bee. The kit
contains all of the parts needed to build a Lazy Bee except: wheels,
engine, radio, covering, & some minor hardware. Specifically, the kit
includes: pre-cut sheet balsa and plywood parts, balsa sticks, spruce or
basswood sticks, balsa strips, extra sheet balsa, bamboo dowels, windows,
front axle, tail wheel spring, the complete plans (3 pages, rolled), and
instruction book. The full-wing plans are very detailed and include
laminating templates and covering patterns - which will save a lot of time
when you cover your Lazy Bee. Our excellent instruction book (40 pgs) has
over 50 detail drawings and includes a detailed "shopping list"
that lists everything you'll need to complete the plane.
LAZY BEE PLANS PACKET (Item
#221850)
For scratch builders. You get the detailed full-wing plan set (includes
the covering patterns and laminating templates), and an expanded
"shopping list" for scratch building the original 40" Lazy
Bee. It lists all the materials needed to complete the plane. You also
get: windows, tail spring, axle, dowels, & instruction book.
EXTENDED WING LAZY BEE KIT
The extended wing was designed to reduce the wing loading for heavier Lazy
Bees - especially for electric powered versions. The extended wing
increases the wingspan to 48" and adds another 112 sq inches of wing
area (20% increase) by extending the center section by of the wing. The
48" Lazy Bee is slower, more docile, and glides better than the
original. The kit includes the complete plans and all of the parts from
the original Lazy Bee Kit, plus the additional parts required for the
extended wing: 2 wing ribs& basswood spars.
EXTENDED WING LAZY BEE PLANS PACKET (Item
#221851)
For scratch builders. You get the detailed extended wing plan set
(includes covering patterns and laminating templates), and a
"shopping list" specifically for scratch building the Extended
Wing Lazy Bee. It lists all the materials needed to complete the plane.
You also get: windows, tail spring, axle, dowels and instruction book.
AILERON WING (40") KIT FOR THE LAZY BEE (Item
#221812)
Put the new 40" Aileron Wing on your 3-channel Lazy Bee and make it
into a sporty 4-Channel Lazy Bee Special. The aileron wing, like the
Speedy Bee wing, is flat across the top, but gets some dihedral by bottom
taper. The ailerons are very large (often referred to as "barn
door" ailerons) for better control at low speeds. The aileron wing is
more aerobatic: Inverted flight is much easier, and side slips and
knife-edges are possible. The aileron wing is a new design and shares no
common parts with the original wing. The aileron wing has the same
14" chord as the original wing, but less dihedral. No laminating is
required. The aileron servo is installed in the wing to simplify
installation. The kit includes: wing parts (pre-cut & sticks), 1 page
plans, and instructions.
EXTENDED AILERON WING (50") KIT FOR THE LAZY BEE (Item
#221813)
Add the new 50" Aileron Wing to your 3-channel Lazy Bee and convert
it into a sporty 4-Channel Lazy Bee Special. The extended aileron wing was
designed for the electric flyer in mind, but is a good choice for gas
flyers, too. The 50" wing has the same 14" chord and even larger
ailerons than the standard 40" aileron wing (really big barn doors).
The aileron wing is flat across the top, but gets some dihedral by bottom
taper. The ailerons are very large for greater control at low speeds. The
aileron wing has less dihedral, so it is less stable and more aerobatic
than the original wing. Inverted flight is much easier, and side slips and
knife-edges possible. The aileron wing is a new design and shares no
common parts with the original 3-channel wing. The aileron servo is
installed in the wing to simplify installation. Includes: wing parts,
plans (1 pg), and instructions.
NEW! LAMINATION SETS FOR THE LAZY BEE (Item
#222168)
We do the dirty work for you! For the Lazy Bee , you get a five-piece set
that includes: 2 wing tips, 2 elevator halves, and 1 rudder.
LAZY BEE FLOAT KIT (Item
#222162)
Convert your Bee into a float plane! Works with all versions of the Lazy
Bee and Lazy Bee Special! Once the floats are assembled, you can change
from wheels to floats in about 2 minutes! We tested about 20 different
float shapes and configurations to find the optimal set-up. These
lightweight floats (3 to 4 oz) are made from balsa and can be built either
2" or 2.5" wide, depending on the weight of your plane. Most
planes should use 2.5" floats, only the lighter planes (24 oz or
less) should use 2" floats. The floats can be covered with Litespan
or Easytex to match your plane. The float kit includes: Pre-cut main &
tail float sides, sheet balsa, bamboo dowels, all the required balsa &
basswood sticks, and a set of plans that shows both the assembly and
installation details. If the lake freezes over, use the floats as skis for
flying from snow!
